Here’s my weekly roundup.
It’s a short list of what I’ve been reading, listening to, watching or thinking about over the last week.

Short posts I’m reading
In yesterday’s Finance Friday - Better Never Stops, I wrote about the importance of having better processes and using lean techniques to improve them. Here’s an article I’d read from Harvard Medical on the importance of adopting a lean mindset and culture for health care organisations (It’s as relevant to any organisation and well worth a read).
How valuable were your last 40 minutes? Chris Guillebeau challenges productivity tools by looking at how you’ve spent the last 40 minutes. A useful question to ask, because I’m sure you’ve asked yourself where did the time go?
And if you haven’t read yesterday’s Finance Friday yet, here’s a link to that.
Longer Listens
I enjoyed this podcast (1hr 40m) from the Knowledge Project with Blake Eastman - (who’s a non verbal communication expert). In it he covers a multitude of subjects around how we communicate with each other. Including the ability to read non verbal communications, how we can communicate with our partners without complaining, the value of watching ourselves communicate on video - you’ll get lots out of this.
(Slightly) Longer reads
As a finance professional, it pays to understand what your CEO is thinking. Here’s Mckinsey’s take with 8 CEO priorities for 2024. (from Gen AI to a New Lens on the Macro Economy).
Book worth reading
I enjoyed Titan by Ron Chernow an epic biography of John D Rockefeller history’s first billionaire and patriarch of the American family dynasty. It covers an interesting period post civil war with the shift from small business to the rise of the giant corporations. Based on extensive access to Rockefeller’s papers. The story covers a who’s who of American Society in the early part of the 20th Century. Well worth a read.
Quote:
“The impression was gaining ground with me that it was a good thing to let the money be my slave and not make myself a slave to money.”
― Ron Chernow, Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.
