Here’s my weekly roundup.
It’s a short list of what I’ve been reading, listening to, watching or thinking about over the last week.
Feel free to share with the link below:
Short posts I’m reading
How to be an email trailblazer in your organisation by Colin Ellis gives a great overview of how to be more effective in using email in your organisation.
77 Different types of accounting! Who knew there were so many. Linkedin post by Josh Aharonoff
And if you haven’t read yesterday’s Finance Friday on Business Partners vs consultants yet, here’s a link to that.
Longer Listens
I really enjoyed Season 2 of Hot Money - The New Narcos (8 episodes) from the FT and Pushkin, about the rise and power of organised crime and specifically the links between criminals, legitimate businesses and governments. (available web, Apple Podcasts or Spotify).
Sam Parr founder of theHustle.co has an interesting new podcast called Moneywise. In it he interviews high net worth individuals to find out what they do with their money. He also delves into the thorny question of how much money do you need? Listen on: Apple Podcasts or Spotify This first episode features Ankur Nagpal who sold Teachable for $250m and pocketed a cool $40m in the process.
Book worth reading
The Coaching Habit by Michael Stainer Bungay is a great little book that essentially shows managers and people leaders how to coach their people - with a series of short practical ideas, you can help support your team members by helping them discover what they need to do, rather than simply telling them.
Quote:
“If this were a haiku rather than a book, it would read: Tell less and ask more. Your advice is not as good As you think it is.” Michael Stainer Bungay
